The Autoimmune Assessment test is comprised of two routinely tested markers.
The antinuclear antibody (ANA) test is used as a primary test to assist in evaluating for autoimmune disorders. ANA are a group of autoantibodies produced by the immune system which may affect many tissues through the body and is used to help diagnose systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) along with other antibody (Ab) testing. ANA Ab’s can cause organ damage as they are located in the nucleus of cells. ANA’s may be used to help diagnose or rule out other autoimmune disorders, such as Sjögren syndrome, polymyositis and scleroderma.
Rheumatoid factor (RF) is used to diagnose rheumatoid arthritis (RA), an autoimmune arthritic condition. In the early stages of RA, symptoms may present as osteoarthritis or may be un-identifiable as other connective tissue disorders such as Reynard’s syndrome, scleroderma, autoimmune thyroid disorders, systemic lupus erythematosus, may present with symptoms of RA type disorders.
