Personalised Care for Chronic Conditions, Pain Relief, and Performance Optimisation

At North Shore Health, we understand that many clients arrive after seeing multiple specialists without real results. Thomas, founder and director, has over 15+ years of experience helping clients identify the underlying causes of chronic pain, inflammation, or performance limitations.

Thomas's approach is thorough and investigative: By pinpointing the problem rather than just addressing symptoms, Thomas creates targeted, personalised treatment plans that deliver meaningful results, whether it’s managing chronic pain, restoring function, or enhancing athletic performance.

1. Acupuncture - With a Bachelor of Health Science and over 15 years of clinical experience, Thomas brings a science-based, integrative approach to acupuncture. Specialising in chronic pain conditions, he focuses on the nervous system’s role in health, particularly how adrenal function and cortisol levels influence inflammation and the immune system. Through careful assessment and personalised treatment, Thomas works to restore balance and support the body’s natural healing mechanisms, often achieving results where conventional approaches have failed.

2. Traditional Herbalist - Thomas combines his deep knowledge of health science with traditional herbal medicine to support recovery from chronic conditions. He selects evidence-informed herbal extracts and supplements tailored to each client, focusing on reducing inflammation, supporting immune function, and restoring overall balance. By integrating modern understanding of physiology with time-honoured herbal practices, Thomas helps clients achieve long-term wellness in a natural, holistic way.

3. Sports Therapy - Thomas applies an advanced, hands-on approach to chronic pain management and musculoskeletal health. Drawing on a range of techniques — including dry needling, active release, cupping, heat therapy, and trigger point therapy — he addresses issues affecting joints, tendons, and muscles. Each treatment plan is personalised, combining knowledge from multiple disciplines to restore function, improve performance, and reduce pain for athletes and active clients.

4. Massage Therapy - As a highly trained remedial massage therapist with over 20 years of experience, Thomas specialises in deep tissue, sports, fascial release, sacro-cranial, and shiatsu (lvl 2). His treatments are informed by a comprehensive understanding of anatomy and physiology, tailored to relieve tension, improve mobility, and support recovery. Thomas’s approach blends precision, knowledge, and skill, ensuring each session promotes long-lasting relief and enhanced well-being.

5. Martial Arts Instructor – Wing Chun - Since 2007, Thomas has trained in internal martial arts, specialising in Wing Chun, focusing on body mechanics, alignment, and power generation. He teaches athletes and martial artists how to optimise movement, enhance strength, and prevent injury through personalised, system-based training.

If you've been struggling with a health condition that hasn't responded to conventional treatments, Thomas's unique approach may be the turning point you've been looking for.

Internal Kung-Fu - Wing Chun

Head Instructor: Phillip Warburton

Linage/Background
Late Grand Master
'Chu Shong Tin'

Yip Man nicknamed Chu the 'King of Sil Lim Tao' for his mastery of the first form.

Wing Chun is a system, and not just a style. This means that it is a way of fighting, based on theories and principles, not just a set of techniques that anyone can copy.

Wing Chun is not a "pretty" martial art. It is designed with simple, yet effective moves. It is an evolution from the martial arts of China, where all the flowery movements have been taken out and only the direct and effective movements were kept.

Do not expect high kicks, or movie-like moves when you start Wing Chun. Expect effortless and simple moves that can easily be remembered. Do not expect lots of different moves, there are but a few moves that are perfected over time, and with the assistance of Chi Sau (Sticking Hands) become natural instincts based on feel - where techniques are applied because they feel right, not because that is what the instructor taught the student.

Wing Chun Kung Fu is an art designed by a Chinese nun some 300 years ago. It is one of the most popular martial arts in the world today.

Wing Chun is based upon 5 principles that can define it. These are:

- Efficiency

- Directness

- Minimum use of brute strength

- Practicality

- Economy of movement

These principles help explain how this fighting system was designed by a female. For a smaller person to have an advantage over a larger opponent, they cannot rely on their size, their strength, their physicality, nor can they rely upon elaborate and complicated techniques. The way the Wing Chun movements have been designed brilliantly overcome all these problems. The special and unique training techniques in Wing Chun are it's Forms and Chi Sau.

The main theory that Wing Chun is based upon is the Centreline Theory.

This has many meanings, and I will list 4:

- Firstly there is your own centreline of your body, which must always be defended.

- Attacks are launched along the centreline, this is the shortest distance between two points allowing for faster attacks and superior generation of force.

- the centreline is the most powerful line of attack. This is very important to understand in Wing Chun.

- The centreline of the opponent is targeted to create the maximum amount of damage.

The centreline theory must be learned as an integral part of the Wing Chun system. For a more a deeper understanding of this, one must study Wing Chun Kung Fu.

For a more detailed explanation of Wing Chun, with explanations from the Masters, click on our Articles page at the top of the site.
