Below, we outline how our clinic addresses your pain, supports your diagnostic journey, and empowers you to achieve your health goals.

Understanding Your Chronic Pain

Chronic pain is complex, often varying in intensity, location, and triggers. At North Shore Health, we begin by thoroughly assessing the nature, duration, and impact of your pain to create a treatment plan that works for you.

North Shore Health is a leading multi-disciplinary allied health clinic situated in North Sydney, on the picturesque North Shore. Our team consists of highly qualified, skilled, and experienced health practitioners, committed to providing comprehensive care.

Our clinic offers a range of professional services, including Acupuncture, Chiropractic Care, Remedial Massage, Physiotherapy, and Traditional Herbal Medicine.

Our Approach to Chronic Pain Conditions

How We Assess Your Pain

Our Chronic Pain Assessment Questionnaire helps us understand:

• Pain Characteristics: Whether your pain is sharp, burning, aching, or radiating, and its primary locations (e.g., lower back, neck, knees).
• Duration and Progression: Whether your pain has lasted less than 6 months, 6–12 months, or over a year, and if it has worsened over time.
• Daily Impact: How pain affects sleep, work, emotional well-being, and daily tasks, with average pain levels rated as mild (1–3), moderate (4–6), or severe (7–10).
• Triggers and Relief: Identifying factors like physical activity, stress, or weather that worsen pain, and what provides relief, such as heat therapy, rest, or stretching.

Why This Matters

By understanding your pain’s unique patterns, we can recommend targeted interventions to reduce intensity, improve mobility, and address emotional challenges like stress or anxiety that may exacerbate your condition.

Comprehensive Diagnostic Support

Navigating the diagnostic journey for chronic pain can be frustrating, especially if results are inconclusive or specialists offer conflicting advice. At North Shore Health, we provide clarity and collaboration to help you feel empowered.

What We Offer

• Interpretation of Scan Results: We help you understand past diagnostic findings and their implications.
• Non-Invasive Focus: For those seeking alternatives to surgery or invasive procedures, we prioritize conservative treatments.
• Hope and Confidence: Our team supports you in regaining trust in your ability to manage pain, even if previous treatments were ineffective.

Available Services

• Physiotherapy: Customized exercises to improve mobility, strength, and function, addressing issues like poor posture or sedentary lifestyles.
• Chiropractic Care: Gentle adjustments to alleviate pain and improve spinal health, ideal for conditions like herniated discs.
• Acupuncture: A proven therapy to reduce pain and promote relaxation, effective for many chronic pain conditions.
• Complementary Therapies: Options like Mindfulness-Based Pain Management, yoga, or cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to address psychological factors such as stress or emotional challenges.

Treatment Customization

• Past Treatment Insights: We evaluate the effectiveness of prior treatments (e.g., physical therapy, acupuncture) to avoid ineffective approaches.
• Lifestyle Integration: We address contributing factors like sedentary habits, poor ergonomics, or irregular sleep patterns with practical guidance.
• Flexible Plans: Choose short-term (1–3 months) or long-term treatment, with frequent (weekly/biweekly) or less frequent (monthly) sessions based on your needs.

Medication and Alternative Remedies

We explore safe, effective options to reduce reliance on medications while considering over-the-counter remedies, supplements (e.g., turmeric, omega-3), or TENS machines to complement your care.

Empowering Your Journey

Chronic pain can feel overwhelming, but at North Shore Health, we empower you with education, strategies, and emotional support to regain control.

Building Confidence

• Education: Learn pain management techniques, home exercises, and self-care strategies to manage symptoms effectively.
• Emotional Support: Address stress, anxiety, or depression through counseling, mindfulness, or support groups.
• Collaborative Care: Work with our multidisciplinary team and your existing specialists for a cohesive treatment plan.

Owing to their advanced training and expertise all of our practitioners are recognized by private health insurance. You can therefore claim for your treatment if your policy covers you for this modality in your “extras” coverage.

Best to give your insurer a call and check your policy if you are unsure. We use the HICAPS system in our clinic, which allows you to claim on the spot.

MEDICARE AND THE CDM PROGRAM

If you have a chronic condition your GP may have nominated you for the Chronic Disease Management Program (formally known as the Enhanced Primary Care Program or EPC). If you have been allocated treatments for acupuncture we can take care of you at the North Shore clinic.

Many of our chronic patients have been referred to us by local GP’s and their treatment is partially covered by Medicare. If you are unsure of whether you are an appropriate candidate for this program, have a chat to your GP and see whether this could be the answer for you.
